Van Persie whipped off his shirt following dramatic late equaliser against Chelsea.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has criticised striker and goalscoring hero Robin van Persie for his goal celebration in the club’s 1-1 draw at home against Chelsea this afternoon, report the Daily Star, after the Dutchman took off his shirt to celebrate his late striker to deny the Blues victory at Old Trafford.

Van Persie smashed the ball into the back of the net from close range after Thibaut Courtois had made a fine save from a Marouane Fellaini header and wheeled off towards the Stretford End in celebration, tearing off his shirt in the process.

This earned van Persie a yellow card, however, and van Gaal criticised the experienced frontman for his choice of celebration after the match:

“You can be excited, but you don’t have to pull shirt off because it’s a yellow card, not so smart.”
