1. David de Gea – 7
Made some excellent saves, most notably against Didier Drogba and Eden Hazard, but could nothing about the former’s header that gave the Blues the lead.
2. Rafael – 6
Looked a little frantic at the start and earned a yellow card for a foul on Hazard early on, but looked good going forward again and was bizarrely tasked with marking the striker for corners.
12. Chris Smalling – 6
Drafted back into the side and looked solid enough, although could not deal with the physicality of Drogba.
5. Marcos Rojo – 4
Not a good display from the Argentine who looks lost as a centre-back and that is just adding to the woes of Louis van Gaal’s men at the bacl.
3. Luke Shaw – 5
Showed at times that he is a real force going forward, but Branislav Ivanovic had the better of the 19-year-old for much of the game.
