El Observador points finger at Barcelona legend.

An angry newspaper from Uruguay have launched a shocking diatribe on Barcelona star Lionel Messi by claiming that he didn’t pass to debutant Luis Suarez once during the El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, the Daily Star reports.

Suarez made his bow for the La Liga giants this weekend after serving out his four-month ban for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Though he set up Neymar’s opener in the 3-1 defeat, he looked noticeably off pace, and some of the press in his homeland have looked for problems where there apparently are none.

Frustrated El Observador journalist Marcelo Decaux wrote: “Messi didn’t pass to Suarez once. His teammates didn’t help him.

“That isn’t the style of play that suits him best. Suarez provided an assist for Neymar for the goal and crossed the ball in when Messi could have scored the second, and that would have changed the whole contest.”

However, those claims are outrageously wrong as stats company OPTA has Messi passing to Suarez five times, with the Uruguayan returning the favour seven times.

It seems that the Uruguayan press really are that protective of their favourite son.
