Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is fighting to be fit ahead of the Manchester derby this weekend after apparently being spotted limping during a sponsors even on Monday afternoon, according to the Guardian.

The striker has just served a three-game suspension so, if he does prove unavailable, it would be a major blow to Manchester United, who are unbeaten in four matches as they head to the Etihad Stadium for the 168th meeting with Manchester City.

However, Rooney was able to attend the event with a number of the side’s other first team stars despite suffering the injury earlier in the day.

Sources at the club, though, are understood to have been unaware at his problem, even after manager Louis Van Gaal spoke out about players commercial involvements potentially causing harm to his ability to manage the side successfully.
