The German international is likely to be one of the most sought-after players in the January transfer window as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in securing his services.

Khedira has been unable to come to terms with the Champions League winners and looks set to head for the exit, a move which Real will sanction if any interested party meets their £8m asking price during the January transfer window.

And reports are now suggesting that City are interested in making their own move for the star and could sanction a deal in the new year.

The Spanish club’s boss Carlo Ancelotti recently revealed he hopes to keep Khedira and tried to rule out a January switch.

He said: “We have until June to reach an agreement with him.

“If he wants to sign an extension, the club will renew him. If not, he will leave the team at the end of the season.”
