ESPN claim that the Serie A side are keen on Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva, who has been something of a bit-part player this term.

Indeed the 27 year old has confirmed interest from Naples but has been quick to state that he is under contract at Liverpool and wants to deal with the situation in a respectful manner given the long service he has had at the Merseyside oufit.

“I am not talking with anyone at the moment because I have a contract, but as soon as I’m not playing I have to look around,” Lucas said.

“Something was discussed with Napoli in the summer, but nothing that would have suited both sides of the deal.”

Lucas has started just two Premier League fixtures this term and a lack of playing time is sure to lead to the former Gremio man considering his options.

“I want to play, but I have to be patient and find a solution here or elsewhere,” Lucas said.

“[Liverpool] is a club for which I have great affection, because I have been here seven years, and if one day I do want to leave, I’ll do it the right way because I owe Liverpool a lot.”

Napoli are also readying a move for out of sorts Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli according to the Liverpool Echo.

Though the 24 year old netted in his side’s comeback win over Swansea City on Tuesday night he is still to register a goal in seven Premier League appearances.

This source claims Benitez is ready to offer Balotelli an ‘escape route’ back to his native Italy with a £10m bid lined up for the former AC Milan man.
