Manchester United and Manchester City have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Barcelona defender Gerard Pique this January, according to the Daily Mirror.

It is thought that the Catalan giants could be willing to offload the Spanish international after a poor recent run of form, with Premier League clubs now on alert for the experienced centre-back.
Pique has previously been regarded as one of the best in the world in his position, but looks unsettled at the Nou Camp at present and possibly set to become the next high-profile name out of the door this winter.
New Barca boss Luis Enrique was ruthless in his transfer business during the summer, axing big names such as Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez as they left for Chelsea and Arsenal, respectively.
Pique could now follow them to the Premier League after failing to impress Enrique so far this season, looking particularly off-form as Barcelona fell to a 3-1 defeat to rivals Real Madrid last weekend.
United and City are in need of defensive signings after poor starts to the season themselves, and there’s no doubt Pique could make a top class purchase if he regains his best form.
