Arsenal look set to beat rivals Manchester United to the signing of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, according to the Metro.

Talks over a £31.5m move for the German international to move to the Emirates Stadium this winter are said to be at an advanced stage, with Arsene Wenger set to pull off a superb deal to tighten up his back four.
The Gunners have leaked goals so far this season, partly due to a number of injuries in defence, and Hummels would make a top class addition to the club after his fantastic displays for club and country in recent seasons.
The 25-year-old has become established as one of the best in the world in his position, and his arrival at Arsenal would signal another hugely ambitious deal by the club after their recent signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
After years of struggling to compete in the transfer market, Arsenal are now making signings to rival some of the biggest names in Europe, and it would be a major boost for them to beat United to this signing in particular.
The Red Devils have also been targeting Hummels in a bid to strengthen their unconvincing defence this season.
