There are question marks over Belgian custodian Simon Mignolet and Rodgers may feel that current back-up option Brad Jones is not of sufficient quality to challenge the former Sunderland man.

Perin is considered one of the best young keepers in Europe and was part of Cesare Prandelli’s 2014 World Cup squad though is still to win a first senior Italian national team cap.

The 21 year old has been impressive between the sticks this term, conceding just eight goals in nine Serie A appearances this term.

Mignolet in marked contrast has kept just two clean sheets in 13 appearances in all competitions this term.

Rodgers had been strongly linked with an interest in free agent Victor Valdes though it appears the Spaniard is now heading to Man United.
