Trusted Brazilian journalist Rafael Hernandez, a Barcelona supporter with inside knowledge of the club, tweeted that Pique looks likely to leave the Nou Camp in January as the Catalan giants are eager to get rid of him.

The Spanish international has not been at his best for some time now, though he has previously become regarded as one of the world’s best central defenders in a highly successful second spell with Barca.

The 27-year-old started his career in Barcelona’s youth system before spending a short spell with United as a youngster, though he never became a regular for the Red Devils as he returned to La Liga in 2008.

Still, it is now thought that he could join up with United again, with it being revealed that he previously considered an approach from them in the summer before opting to remain in Spain.
