Emirates Stadium side a step closer to solid young defensive signing.
Arsenal target Fabian Schar has admitted he may leave FC Basel, handing the Gunners a massive boost ahead of a potential January bid according to the Sunday Express.
The 22 year old Swiss international, who was part of his side’s squad at the 2014 World Cup finals, appears ready to leave the St. Jakob-Park with a number of sides known to be interested in the youngster.
On the subject of his future Schar stated;
“Basel are open to negotiations, but at this moment I have decided that I want to concentrate on my performances.
“I went through a difficult period and it wasn’t the right time to discuss my renewal. I don’t want to be worrying about that now.
“My dream remains to have an experience abroad. I’ve always said that if the opportunity presented itself, I would take it, obviously in agreement with Basel.
“I need a team with important prospects. I’d like the Bundesliga, Premier League or top Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus. I couldn’t say no.
“I want to hear all my options and consider them carefully. There was some contact in the summer, but nothing serious.”
Arsenal could perhaps do with a further option at the back given the departure of Thomas Vermaelen and ongoing injury concerns over a number of the club’s defensive performers.
Having won back to back Swiss titles Schar may feel he has achieved as much as he is able to at FC Basel and would surely be tempted by a move to the Emirates Stadium.
