The Mexican international is considering a new challenge after a few years with La Liga club Real Sociedad, where he has developed his game and become one of the top attacking players in the Spanish top flight.

Arsenal were thought to be keen on re-signing Vela this summer after noticing his marked improvement, but he opted to remain with the Basque outfit at the time, signing a new contract.

However, this season has not gone so well for Sociedad so far, and Everton now sense that they may have a chance of swooping for the 25-year-old, who weighed in with a highly impressive 21 goals and 13 assists in all competitions last season.

Toffees manager Roberto Martinez has done some fine work in the transfer market in recent times, bringing in Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea this summer, though he could still do with more firepower upfront.

Vela’s recent goals record suggests he could help provide that, and he looks ready to make an impact in English football after a difficult spell at the Emirates Stadium as a youngster.
