The Belgian had appeared to be allegedly spitting on Manchester City’s Aguero while the Argentine was down with a knock from a Fellaini tackle. However, his manager claims that he was just shouting at the centre-back.

“Sometimes when you shout there is a little bit of saliva. The TV has shown it. Fellaini is shouting and saliva came out. He is not spitting,” van Gaal said after the match.

The incident happened before Aguero scored the winner in the Citizens’ 1-0 win over the Red Devils in Sunday’s Manchester derby. The goal was the 26-year-old’s tenth goal of the season, taking him to the top of the Premier League goalscorers table.

Meanwhile United’s loss means that this is the worst start to a season since 1986. Louis van Gaal’s men will need to improve if they are to have any chance of getting Champions League football next season.
