The monarch of the principality, son of Grace Kelly, had hoped the 28 year old would remain at the Stade Louis II for more than just one season and comments he makes suggest that a permanent exit is all but certain.

“I was disappointed by the departure of Falcao,” he told Canal Plus. “We expected him to stay a little more. But now the young team is progressing well.

“I understand the frustration of fans who feel abandoned. But even with fewer big names, we can hope to do well.

“What has been disappointing is the lack of uniformity. I think the team has struggled, or the coach has had the difficulty to finding the right way to motivate the group.

“But I think we’re on a roll to make a great season.”

AS Monaco finished second in Ligue 1 last term, earning the club a Champions League berth, but the loss of Falcao and fellow countryman James Rodriguez, who left for Real Madrid, have had an inevitable affect on their current campaign.

Under new manager Leonardo Jardim AS Monaco sit in seventh place in Ligue 1 though they have fared well in Champions League action, securing two draws and a win from their opening three fixtures.
