Louis van Gaal’s side made the short trip to the Etihad Stadium to face a Man City side who had lost their previous two fixtures and it was end to end stuff before the balance swung the home side’s way when Chris Smalling picked up a silly second yellow card leaving Man United down to ten men for the majority of the match.
On the stroke of half-time Man City were unlucky to not win a penalty when it appeared that Marcos Rojo had taken down Yaya Toure, one of numerous spot-kicks Pellegrini’s side could have rightfully been awarded.
Just after the hour Sergio Aguero showed his predatory skills, smashing home with a first time finish that David de Gea had no chance to keep out.
City took their foot off the gas a fair bit in the final stages but Man United couldn’t find an equalizer and Louis van Gaal’s side suffered their first defeat in five Premier League fixtures.
