Costa arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer for £32m and has taken to life in the Premier League effortlessly, with nine goals to his name already.

However, the Spanish giants have said that they only received around £16m for his services with the rest apparently going to third party ownership.

And Cerezo is now lamenting the move as a poor piece of business on his club’s behalf.

“He is one of the best strikers in the world,” he said.

“His departure was hastened because we had a weak moment in which we couldn’t say no.

“If it was to happen now, he wouldn’t go.

“The economic issue hasn’t been good for us as we got 50 per cent of what was said. It was more about money for him.”
