The 30 year old is apparently free to leave Old Trafford having wholly failed to challenge David de Gea for the Man United starting spot, indeed the Dane hasn’t made a single appearance this term and made just one Premier League start last term.

Louis van Gaal has been strongly linked with an interest in Spanish international Victor Valdes, the free agent keeper having trained with the club’s first team as he recovers from a knee injury, and as such Lindegaard would do well to look for a new club.

A move to Benfica may well suit all parties though one wonders if Lindegaard would be able to push ahead of current regular Artur or his back-up Julio Cesar, the Primeira Liga title holders having conceded just six goals in nine domestic league fixtures this term.
