Former Chelsea youngster Joe Reay has been killed following a collision with a taxi, reports the Mirror.

20-year-old Reay was pronounced dead on the scene following a car accident on Saturday morning.

Once part of the Chelsea youth academy, Reay went on to join Woking FC where his father is a director. The pair were both devoted Chelsea fans and were set to attend Chelsea’s game against QPR later that day.

Police were called to the scene at around 5.20am on Saturday, where they spoke to a taxi driver who had been involved in the incident.

A man in his 20s was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. The man has already been released on bail however, pending a hearing on Thursday the eights of January as the investigation is ongoing.

His friends and family are understandably devastated.

A number of touching tributes have gone out to the young star who will be sorely missed.
