Sturridge has been missing from action since suffering a thigh injury in August before he was then ruled out for a further two to three weeks with a calf strain sustained during training.

Recently, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers claimed that he didn’t think it was likely that the England international would return in time for the clash with Real or next weekend’s game with league leaders Chelsea.

However, the England international has given Liverpool fans hope that he may have won his fitness race in time for the game at the Santiago Bernabeu after posting a photo of himself flying to Madrid on Monday.

Alongside the picture, which was posted on Instagram, Sturridge wrote: ‘Madrid bound with the boys #vibes’
