According to El Pais the goalkeeper will be ready to return to action sooner than expected and could be back on the pitch before the New Year.

ESPN reported in late October that a thigh problem would be keeping Opsina on the sidelines for three months, meaning it would have been well into 2015 before the Colombia international returned.

So the fact this prognosis could be cut by nearly a month will be music to the ears of both the fans and manager Arsene Wenger, despite the fact the 26-year-old hasn’t exactly played a key role since his £3m move from Nice.

Wojciech Szczesny is still the established No.1 at the Emirates Stadium, but third choice Damian Martinez is not yet considered ready to take up the berth as backup and therefore Ospina is needed back as soon as possible.

Wenger has recently welcomed back Theo Walcott to the team after nine months out with a cruciate ligament injury, whilst there are also reports that striker Olivier Giroud will be returning to fitness sooner than expected as well.
