Azpilicueta is part of Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season
Manchester United and Liverpool legends Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher believe that Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta is the best defender in the Premier League.

The pair said that it had to be one of the Blues defenders due to their consistent top performances. They were speaking on Sky Sports before the match between Crystal Palace and Sunderland on Monday.
Neville, a full-back in the same vein as Azpilicueta in his playing days, said, “I’d say, for consistency of performances, it would be one of the Chelsea lads – and I’d probably say Azpilicueta. For technical defending, not making a mistake, not being in the wrong position, not getting caught out.”
Carragher, a former centre-back himself, agreed; “I totally agree. I think those Chelsea players, all of them, they defend properly. We see that in terms of the number of goals they’ve conceded, the clean sheets they keep. Azpilicueta is an out-and-out defender. You very rarely see anybody get the better of him. He’d be my number one.”
With Azpilicueta in the side the West Londoners have currently got through the first 10 games of the season unbeaten. They are top of the league by four points, ahead of surprise package Southampton.
However, they do not actually have the best defensive record in the competition at the moment. The South coast club having conceded five less goals than the Blues.
