Portuguese daily A Bola claims that Premier League giants Manchester United have been sending scouts to watch Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez, ahead of a potential January transfer bid. (Story reported in the Mirror.)

The Argentine has a €30m release clause, having started for his country in the World Cup final defeat to Germany, and impressed so with this season in the Portuguese league.

La Liga giants Valencia are also interested in the technically gifted 28-year-old, but Louis van Gaal’s men will likely be able to financially trump the Spaniard’s should they wish to sign Perez this Winter.

Perez prides himself on his composure on the ball, and his ability to zip sharp passes into the feed of the player ahead of him, linking defence and attack.

United’s priority in January will surely to be to strengthen the defence, but the centre of the midfield is arguably weak as well, with veterans Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher struggling for form and fitness, as is summer signing Ander Herrera.
