Former Inter Milan and Parma forward Adriano, once a starter for the Brazilian national team, has been charged with links to drug trafficking, reports the Mirror.

The striker, now out of contract after failing to perform at a string of clubs, is accused of buying a motorbike in 2008 from Brazilian drug lord ‘Mica’, a notorious figure in Rio de Janeiro.

The allegations against Adriano were first made in 2010, but the 32-year-old denied the claims, but four years later, prosecutors have demanded that his passport is seized.

Adriano was expected to sign for French Ligue 2 side Le Havre, but these latest problems to dog his personal life likely make the move impossible.

“I’m 99 per cent sure I will play at Le Havre. I had some problems in the past, I made some mistakes, but the joy I feel with a ball on a football pitch is stronger than anything else. I don’t care where I play, as long as I’m playing,” he said.

Adriano won the Serie A title on four occasions with Inter Milan between 2004 and 2009, and was regularly linked with a big money move to Chelsea.
