Gunners join chase for out-of-favour star.
Arsenal are the latest top club to be linked with a move to sign Barcelona defender Gerard Pique this January, according to the Daily Mail.
The Spanish international looks increasingly likely to be on his way out of the Nou Camp this winter after being left out of Luis Enrique’s starting lineup for the second game in a row, as he missed the club’s Champions League win away to Ajax.
Despite previously being a key player for the Catalan giants, Pique has recently suffered something of a dip in form and now faces increased competition for places in the starting lineup after the summer signings of Jeremy Mathieu, plus former Arsenal star Thomas Vermaelen when he returns from injury.
The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have also shown a strong interest in snapping Pique up if he does become available this season, and it is thought that he could move for between £20-24m.
Arsenal are also in need of some strengthening in defence this January, with other big names recently linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium as Arsene Wenger has failed to bring in a replacement since Vermaelen’s departure during the summer.
