United star linked with shock Bernabeu return.
Real Madrid are being linked with a move to re-sign Angel Di Maria from Manchester United in a swap deal involving Gareth Bale, according to the Daily Express.
The Spanish giants sold the Argentine winger to United for £60m just this summer, but are already keen to bring him back to the Bernabeu next summer as they seem prepared to let the under-performing Bale leave the club.
United are known to be keen on signing the Welsh wide-man, having previously been linked with a world-record £90m deal for the former Tottenham Hotspur player, but they may now be able to land him on a cheaper deal if they include Di Maria as part of their bid.
It seems unlikely that the Red Devils would part with Di Maria so soon after signing him, particularly with the 26-year-old impressing at Old Trafford so far this season.
Still, he remains a big favourite of his previous manager Carlo Ancelotti as well, having shone as one of the side’s best players last season as Real won the Champions League and Copa del Rey double.
Bale, meanwhile, has come under some criticism for his lack of tactical discipline and is supposedly frustrating his manager with his performances.
