North London duo chasing Spanish international.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly the two main contenders to snap up unsettled Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer in next summer’s transfer window, according to Fichajes.net.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the Bernabeu next summer and attracting plenty of interest, despite looking past his best form in recent months with a string of disappointing displays for club and country.

Still, Arsenal could do with strengthening in goal due to some inconsistent displays from current number one Wojciech Szczesny, while Tottenham may also face losing their current first choice shot-stopper to Real, with the Spanish giants eyeing a long-term replacement for the veteran keeper.

Hugo Lloris is one of many names to be linked with Carlo Ancelotti’s side, and it may be that Spurs will then bring in Casillas to replace him at White Hart Lane, with the experienced custodian still seen as a potentially world class performer if he can rediscover his best form.

Casillas has spent his entire career so far with Madrid, winning a host of major honours including captaining the side to Champions League glory in last season’s memorable 4-1 final win over local rivals Atletico Madrid.
