Robin van Persie has been struggling for form this season, but he can be confident of keeping his place up front for at least another couple of weeks after news emerged about his Colombian teammate’s injury. The 28-year-old suffered a calf injury in training and as a consequence will be out for a short while.

Falcao has struggled to bed in since joining on loan from Monaco in the summer, with injuries preventing him from stringing any number of games together.

“What I understand is that he has a sore calf, a little pull,” his father said.

“It’s for two or three weeks, and I think he will be ready for next week, if you listen to the club doctor.

“His discomfort is muscular. He is training alone doing recovery and will have to wait.”

Not only did the former Atletico Madrid man miss today’s win against Crystal Palace, but he is likely to be unavailable for United’s crunch Premier League clash with Arsenal after the upcoming international break.
