Manchester United Fail In Move For Defender As Injury Crisis Continues

See which defender Manchester United won’t be getting their hands on in January…

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar will not be heading to Manchester United in January, according to the Telegraph.

The defender, who played for Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal in the Netherlands national team, has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, with United’s defensive injury crisis making defensive signings a necessity.

But Aston Villa’s club officials have now told United to look elsewhere, as the defender is going nowhere. Vlaar is a key part of the Villa side who are battling to avoid relegation, and owner Randy Lerner sees that losing the centre-back could send his side spiraling towards the Championship.

Both Vlaar and teammate Fabian Delph have contracts which expire next summer, but Villa have decided that they would rather lose the players for free than risk being relegated.

Manchester United’s injury crisis has shown no signs of abating, with centre-back Marcos Rojo the latest player out injured. The Argentine suffered a dislocated shoulder in last Sunday’s Manchester derby, an injury which Louis Van Gaal has said could keep the defender out till the new year.

But Villa’s defiant stance over their captain Vlaar means that United will have to turn their attentions elsewhere in January.
