The French international started the season slowly and had become an unpopular figure among Madrid fans, with the player often being booed by supporters for a perceived lack of effort.

This led to Benzema’s agent holding talks with Arsenal over a possible move, but this never materialised and it now seems highly unlikely that the Spanish giants would consider letting him go anytime soon.

The 26-year-old now has eight goals in his last six games for Real, becoming one of their most important attacking players this season and forming a fine partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo for Carlo Ancelotti’s all-conquering team.

Despite some speculation earlier in the season that Real could be in the market for a new signing upfront, it seems more than likely now that they will stick with Benzema in attack if he maintains this superb level of performance.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will have to look elsewhere for a striker if they choose to bring in a player to challenge Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud for a place at the head of the Gunners’ attack.
