The German international looks likely to leave Dortmund this winter, according to sources in Germany, with the Emirates Stadium his preferred destination rather than Old Trafford.
Long regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, Hummels would make a superb signing for either club, who are both looking somewhat short of quality options at the back this season.
Both Arsenal and United have been leaking goals for much of the season so far, and have therefore been linked with a host of big names to solve this issue in the next transfer window, with Hummels coming up on their radars several times.
The 25-year-old is seemingly leaning towards joining the Gunners over the Red Devils, in what would be a major boost for Arsene Wenger’s side as he looks to continue his side’s pursuit for silverware this term.
United, meanwhile, may have to look elsewhere to fix their back four, which has been unfortunate in the ludicrous number of injuries picked up in this campaign so far.
