Guedes is currently in the process of penning a lucrative new five-year deal at the Estadio de Luz, which will include a huge buyout clause worth around £40 million, but Benfica have reportedly accepted that they will lose Guedes possibly as soon as next summer and are looking to pin him down to a deal purely to extract maximum financial gain from the player.

The 17 year-old is on the fringes of Jorge Jesus’ first team in Lison currently but, along with in-form Brazilian striker Talisca, Guedes is one of two of the most exciting and precocious young talents in world football right now plying their trade at the Eagles.

If Arsenal do want to land their man, however, not only will the prospective £40m fee provide an obstacle, but they will also have to negotiate the fact that a host of major European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid are also casting their beady eyes over Guedes and his huge potential.
