The Gunner came second in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen in the 2007-08 season, but since then he has not come close to winning a league title.

However, he was part of Germany’s World Cup winning squad in Brazil.

Gooners will not be enthused by this admission, as the club chase a first Premier League championship since 2004.

At 30 years old, the German has got several seasons left in which to win a league, but he claims that he would not mind if he didn’t.

“If I look back on my career without having won a league title, I won’t see that as a failure,” he said. “I’ll do my absolute best to make sure that I can prepare for that eventuality.”

Arsenal will be hoping their form picks up if they want to be involved in this year’s title race, with Chelsea currently twelve points ahead of them at the top of the league.
