The left-back performed well in the Red Devil’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. He was in good form both defensively and going forward.

Shaw’s Man United career has taken a while to get going after injuries and concerns from Louis van Gaal about his fitness.

However, he has now started the last few games, and his performances have helped the club to deal with the injury crisis that they are having at the back.

Shaw, 19, is quoted as saying: “At the start there was a few people questioning whether it was the right move to come here.

“But I’m feeling really good about myself now and hopefully the critics can turn it around now to more positive stuff because there was a lot of negativity about me.

“I just take it on the chin and I try to prove everyone wrong,” said the former Southampton man.

He has also said that having his parents move to Manchester with him has helped with the settling in process.

“My mum and dad have come up. It makes me feel more comfortable. It helped me settle because even at Southampton I never lived with them but it’s nice to be with them and to even spend time with my family.”

Shaw was one of three left-backs, alongside Leighton Baines and Nathaniel Clyne, to be called up to the England squad for the games against Slovenia and Scotland.
