The Reds are understandably desperate to hold on to the highly-promising England international, who has established himself as one of the best young players in the world in recent times.

This has seen some strong interest shown in Sterling by Real Madrid, who are known for snapping up the world’s best talent for big money, but £60m may prove a bit steep even for them.

The 19-year-old will also be offered bumper wages of around £100,000 per week to extend his stay at Anfield, with Brendan Rodgers keen to avoid losing another star player after seeing Luis Suarez make the move to Barcelona this summer, leaving his team in something of a crisis this term.

Sterling’s departure could have a similar effect, with the teenage winger now looking like one of the team’s most important players, and the club will no doubt be hoping to build their future around him for the next few years, as he seemingly has the world at his feet.
