The 20 year old La Liga defender is on the fringes of the senior French national team set-up and is rightly considered one of the best young talents in European football and is certainly ready for a ‘step-up’ and away from San Mames.
Athletic Bilbao are apparently open to a deal to sell Laporte in January just so long as they can then have the played loaned back to see out the current campaign and that’s a move that may interest Louis van Gaal.
The Dutch manager needs to strengthen his back-line and Laporte is in the early years of his career he has the leadership qualities to be able to lead Man United’s defensive resurgence for years to come.
Man United have secured just three clean sheets in 11 Premier League fixtures this term, and those coming against lowly opponents QPR, Crystal Palace and Burnley, and as such could well do with further reinforcements at the back.
