Spurs came from behind to beat Villa 2-1 earlier this month, but the key moment of the game arguably came mid-way through the second-half, when Christian Benteke was sent off for raising his hand.

A scuffle involving numerous players broke out at the Villa Park game on November 2 after the home team’s Belgian striker received his marching orders.

Reports in the Daily Mail explain that Benteke received a three-match ban for lashing out at Tottenham’s Ryan Mason – a punishment manager Paul Lambert labelled ‘excessive’.

The Villa boss remains adamant that the punishment does not fit the crime, even though the FA disagreed. Lambert’s side have struggled since taking ten points from their first four games, losing six in a row before a goalless draw with West Ham.

Tottenham’s win against Villa is one of only two victories in their last nine league matches. The North London club were beaten by Stoke City last weekend, as the difficulties continued for Mauricio Pochettino.
