German goalkeeper Tim Wiese is set for a sensational WWE debut on Saturday, with Bild confirming the rumours that he will be making the switch between sports.

Wiese retired in January after barely playing in the past few seasons for Hoffenheim, and revealed in September that he had been approached by the WWE.

“I got an official request from the WWE,” the Daily Mail quote the keeper as saying. “It’s for a commitment from me to become a pro wrestler. I’ll listen to everything on its own merits. Why should I say no?”

Wiese has always been big, but the 6’3 stopper has really stepped things up in the gym since retiring. The photo of him above went viral earlier in the year, which lead to the approach from the WWE.

He will be participating at a “WWE Live” event in Frankfurt, and while he isn’t yet a full time wrestler, he will appear between the main events in some capacity.

This is not new for professional wrestling, which likes to establish characters through non-wrestling roles before unleashing them in the ring.

Wiese made six appearances for Germany, the last one coming in 2012.
