It turns out Carlo Ancelotti was right she he said the Argentine gave the ball away a lot.

Many laughed at Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti when he said that Angel Di Maria “used to lose control sometimes, misplacing important passes”, as it sounded like a manager that knew he’d let a true talent slip through his fingers.

However, it turns out he was exactly right, as the number crunchers over at the Daily Mirror have proved that he has now given the ball away far too much in both Madrid and Manchester.

Di Maria’s percentage of passes failed at Real Madrid between 2010-14 are as follows:

5. Gonzalo Higuain – 19.4%
4. Cristiano Ronaldo – 21.7%
3. ANGEL DI MARIA – 23.2%
2. Gareth Bale – 23.7%
1. Alvaro Morata – 34.2%

But it gets a lot worse for Man United fans. Di Maria may have created a lot of chances since he signed, but he has a higher percentage of failed passes than any other player at the club this season:

Percentage of passes failed at Man United in 2014/15

5. Luke Shaw – 15.8%
4. Wayne Rooney – 16.2%
3. Radamel Falcao – 16.3%
2. Adnan Januzaj – 17%
1. Angel Di Maria – 20.9%

For all his good work he certainly creates more tracking back for his teammates to take care of, though as the season progresses his plusses will surely far outweigh his negatives.
