The 26-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and with a number of top clubs keeping tabs on him Sam Allardyce is looking to tie him down.

The club have given Reid a deadline of mid-January to sign his contract extension, and if he has not reached an agreement by then he will be either be sold or will be free to negotiate for a summer switch.

The New Zealand defender has been stalling on a new contract for months now, despite a sizable pay rise reportedly being offered by the club.

With interest from several clubs capable of offering him Champions League football however, it is understandable that the West Ham star is having his head turned.

The Hammers would no doubt prefer to get something for him in January rather than risk losing him for free in the summer, so both the Gunners and United could get the defensive reinforcements they so badly need.
