Reds handed minor blow as Belgian ace is to stay with Ligue 1 side.

Liverpool’s hopes of bringing new striker Divock Origi to the club early have finally been dashed by the player himself after he took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to confirm that he will be staying with Lille until the end of the season.

Rumours had been circulating this week that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had been hoping to convince the French club to release the player and let him complete his move to Anfield a little earlier than first thought.

However, Origi himself has now dashed those chances by committing himself to Lille’s cause until the end of the campaign.

Rodgers had been hoping to bring him to Liverpool in January as his current front three of Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini have yet to record a single goal between them in the Premier League so far.

Daniel Sturridge still remains on the sidelines, though he is expected to return after the international break.
