Cech lost his place to Courtois this season after the young Belgian returned from a successful loan spell with Atletico Madrid.

The Blues are in the unusual situation of having two of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League at their disposal, with Jose Mourinho opting for the 22-year-old who he sees as the future of the club.

The Czech international is understandably a little put out by this, with the 32-year-old still more than capable of performing at the top level.

Reports have suggested that he is hoping to secure an exit from Stamford Bridge as soon as possible, and Courtois insists that he is not at all surprised.

“As a goalkeeper you want to play. If I was in that situation where I didn’t play a lot, then I would leave too,” Courtois said.

“I think Petr is still a goalkeeper with a lot of quality and one of the best there is.”

Having honed his skills in La Liga, Courtois has returned to London to nail down a spot with his parent club.

The Belgium international has been a vital part of their fantastic start to the season so far, with Mourinho’s side currently top of the league with 28 points.
