The 34-year-old is set to agree a new contract at Anfield as he nears the end of his current deal, and it may be that he will make the surprise move abroad as former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini appears keen to bring the veteran Englishman to the San Siro.

Mancini only recently took over at Inter, but has seemingly made Gerrard one of his top targets to come in and bolster his options in midfield, a move which could prove tempting to the long-serving Reds captain.

Gerrard has spent his entire career with Liverpool, but now appears open to other offers as he ponders a move that could extend his playing career, with the slower pace of the game in Italy perhaps a smart career choice for him at this stage.

There have been suggestions that Gerrard would no longer be a regular under Brendan Rodgers next season, with the player’s performances already looking somewhat in decline this term as the team struggles to replicate the fine form they showed as they narrowly missed out on the Premier League title last season.
