Red Devils unlikely to sign cover in time for Gunners game.

Manchester United are unlikely to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes in time for him to deputise for the injured David de Gea against Arsenal this weekend, according to ESPN.

De Gea has injured his finger whilst away on international duty with Spain, and is not expected to recover in time to face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.

It had been suggested that United could sign Valdes, who has been training with the club as he recovers from injury himself, in time for the game and put him in goal instead, though he is still not looking fit enough to complete a deal with the Old Trafford oufit.

The 32-year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Nou Camp at the end of his contract last season, and now seems likeliest to make the move to United after being given the chance to work on his fitness with the Red Devils squad.

Still, it looks like Louis van Gaal will have to hand Anders Lindegaard his first appearance for United since April for this big game, with de Gea’s absence the latest in a long line of injuries for the club this season.
