In an interview last week the winger had admitted that he would have signed for PSG if not for Financial Fair Play. However, he has now claimed that the Red Devils were always on the table.

“Before we knew I was coming to Manchester for sure, Ronaldo told me it was a massive club and that I would be very happy here and it would be good for me. At that time, we didn’t know for sure that I was coming or not, so we didn’t go into great detail, but what he did say helped me greatly to make my decision,” the Argentine said.

The Portuguese played for United between 2003 and 2009, winning the Champions League in 2008, as well as the Premier League multiple times. The Old Trafford club are now in the midst of less successful times, with the team facing a fight to finish in the top four and qualify for next year’s Champions League.

However, Di Maria is still hopeful that he will be at the club for many years.

“Leaving a club like Real and coming to as big a club as Manchester United makes you grow as a player and helps you progress in your career. It was a very important moment and I’m really happy here. Let’s hope things go well for me so I can be here for many years,” he said.
