Emirates Stadium side ready to dig deep to sign one of the world’s best.

Arsenal could well do with a strong centre-back with Per Mertesacker having a poor campaign and Laurent Koscielny struggling with injuries.

25 year old Hummels is arguably one of the best defenders in world football but the price-tag placed on the former Bayern Munich man is immense to say the least.

Wenger is ready to sell German forward Lukas Podolski and bit-part attacker Joel Campbell to help foot a portion of the fee needed to land Hummels but one imagines the Arsenal boss will still need to look to his board to finance the lion’s share of the fee.

Hummels has seen his side fall a country mile behind back to back Bundesliga title holders Bayern Munich and this season has started in shocking fashion with Borussia Dortmund sitting near the relegation zone after losing seven of their opening 11 fixtures.
