The Serbian was released on a free transfer at the end of last season, but both United and the player have struggled since. The centre-back has failed to impress in Serie A, and with the manager who signed him recently sacked, he could be available in January.

The 33-year-old was signed for the Italian club by Walter Mazzarri, but a poor start to the season has led to the coach’s sacking. Inter Milan have now placed former manager Roberto Mancini in charge again. It is yet to be seen what this means for the future of the ex Manchester United captain.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are currently facing an injury crisis that has hit their back line especially hard. The Old Trafford physios are currently having to deal with injuries to ten players, including defenders Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Marcos Rojo, Rafael, and Daley Blind.

If Vidic were to return to the club in January then it would at least help to lessen the current injury strains on his former side’s squad.
