Manchester United and Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been supported by his dad, following criticism aimed at the powerful 26-year-old for elbowing Joe Allen, reports the Mirror.

Fellaini left Allen almost unconscious during the 0-0 international draw between the two countries over the weekend, leading with his arm and putting the 5 ft. 6″ Liverpool man on the floor.

He got in no punishment for doing so however, and Allen actually had a foul given against him for the collision.

“Marouane has, in fact, never injured anyone intentionally in his career,” Fellaini senior began.

“However, he has already been hurt on the field. Besides, you must also realise Marouane is very large. When he goes into battle with a small player, his elbows are level with the face of his opponent. Against his will.”

In many respects, Fellaini’s father isn’t wrong. His son is a man-mountain, with about a foot of hair on top of his 6 ft. 4″ frame. However, it’s his clumsiness and recklessness in the tackle which has seem him come under such criticism during the past week – although his dynamism and tenacity has visibly boosted his club side’s midfield.
