The Argentine dislocated his shoulder against the Premier League champions in October, with sources suggesting he could be out anywhere from a few months to the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has revealed that he will be back far sooner than expected however, with the World Cup star expecting to be back in “three or four weeks”.

“The truth is I am very happy because I ended up not having surgery of the shoulder, but yes, I work hard to strengthen the affected area,” Rojo was quoted by Squawka.

“For now I will not be able to return to play for another three or four weeks.”

Following his £16m move from Sporting Lisbon this summer Rojo has made seven appearances for United. Louis van Gaal’s side are currently suffering from a defensive injury crisis, so the sooner the versatile star can return the better.

Van Gaal is having to rely on young talent like Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett, and while they have stepped up to the challenge admirably, they are certainly not adequate replacements for experienced defenders like Marcos Rojo.
