Manager Arsene Wenger has apparently tried to sign the Frenchman in each of the last three transfer windows, and is going to try again in a couple of months. A price of £40 million is being bandied about, and the North London club are supposedly willing to pay that to bring in a world-class striker.

Premier League rivals Liverpool are also interested, as they continue their search for a replacement for Luis Suarez. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to also be prepared to splash the cash on the 26-year-old.

Real Madrid are unlikely to sell without a replacement, but they do have a good relationship with the Gunners, and this could play a key part in any transfer. This relationship has been helped by the smooth transfer of Mesut Ozil in 2013.

Arsenal are looking for a world class striker as their current pair of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, while performing well in build up play do not score enough goals.
