The forward suffered a recurrence of his thigh problem on Tuesday. This is the same injury that has caused the 25-year-old to be out of action since the beginning of September.

In this time the Reds have suffered from a lack of goals, with Mario Balotelli the only one of their three other strikers to score. The Italian has also only scored twice. This coupled with problems in defence have led to Liverpool having a poor start to the season and even some pressure on their Northern Irish manager.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Alan Brazil told of how Brendan Rodgers is losing patience with the amount of time his player is spending on the sidelines. Brazil is a good friend of the 41-year-old.

“I have heard that the staff, I won’t say who but, are getting just a little bit fed up of what is going on there with Sturridge,” said the radio presenter.

When he was asked to elaborate by his co-host, he continued, “Well, let’s put it this way. I think Brendan is very, very upset… I mean, what is going on here? Why is he always injured?”

The Anfield club will be revisiting the ground where their title hopes went up in smoke last season when they face Crystal Palace on Sunday. They will be hoping for a win to start turning their season around.
